Shirley Brennan, M. Soc. Sc., (NQSW), Diploma in Systemic Family Therapy, F.T.A.I.

I began seeing clients in Bray Counselling and Therapy in 2008. I work as a family therapist. I meet with adults, couples, families, children, adolescents and parents.

Prior to working as a Family Therapist in private practice, I worked for a number of years in Beaumont Hospital and Blackrock Hospice as a Senior Social Worker in the fields of Oncology, Palliative Care and Bereavement. This work included individual, family and group conversations exploring the challenges of loss and adjustment, relationship and communication issues, talking to adolescents and children about serious illness and learning to adopt new coping skills.

In my private practice, I meet with clients facing many challenges including illness, bereavement, depression, stress and anxiety, at different stages of the family life cycle. I meet with individual adults, children and adolescents at transitioning stages of their life, parents facing challenges with their children and families going through separation with the aim of working in collaboration towards improving their relationships and quality of life.

In my approach to therapy, I see the individual or family within the context of their personal life experience, their relationships, community and culture. My aim is to create a space where the client feels safe to reflect and explore how to bring about difference in their lives.
