Shirley Brennan, M. Soc. Sc., (NQSW), Diploma in Systemic Family Therapy, F.T.A.I. (Assoc.)

I graduated from U.C.D. in 2000 with a Masters in Social Science and Social Work. I have worked as a Senior Medical Social Worker in the areas of Oncology and Palliative Care in Beaumont Hospital and Blackrock Hospice. I have extensive experience in working with individuals, couples and families faced with serious illness. This work has included individual and group discussions addressing the challenges of loss and adjustment, relationship and communication difficulties, talking to children about serious illness and learning to adapt new coping skills.

I completed a three year diploma in Systemic Family Therapy with the Clanwilliam Institute in 2008. In my approach to therapy, I see the individual, couple or family within the context of their personal life experiences, their relationships, community and culture. In therapy, my aim is to create a space in which the client feels safe to reflect and explore how to bring about difference in their lives.
