Samantha McGarry, M.Sc. in Systemic Psychotherapy, F.T.A.I., I.C.P.

I am a registered Systemic Family Therapist and Supervisor who trained at UCD & Mater Hospital, Dublin. My practice includes therapy, supervision, training and consultation. I have been working with adults, couples, young people and families for 23 years in both the charity and private sector. I have been in private practice for ten years.

My work involves meeting with people experiencing any relationship difficulty, including family communication breakdowns, parental separation and post-divorce dilemmas. I also meet with people who have experienced a bereavement or trauma in their lives. I offer therapy for anyone with current mental health concerns including depression, anxiety and ongoing stress. For much of my career I have also been involved in providing therapy and support to individuals and families following a bereavement through suicide.

I also work with young people who are experiencing emotional challenges in childhood, adolescence and as they move towards adulthood. I have a background in child protection work and have worked with young people living in out of home care situations.

I have a warm, collaborative style and engage in conversations that can create safety and introduce difference, through rich meaningful dialogue. I have a strong belief in the importance of language and many ways we communicate our lived experience. I strive to explore all contexts of a person’s life, to make visible all available strengths and resources, so that a person can access their own unique ability to bring about change and work with the challenges in their lives.

I am a Systemic Supervisor accredited with the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI). I offer clinical supervision using a postmodern, narrative, dialogical lens. I provide ongoing individual supervision to therapists, both in person and online. I facilitate group supervision to therapists, as well as consultations to teams and organisations. I am currently involved in teaching and clinical supervision with UCD Dept. of Medicine- M.Sc. Systemic Psychotherapy.

I am available for weekday and weekend appointments. I also offer online consultations, where appropriate.
